San Bernardino County, California (Upland, CA) – On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, family members were heartbroken after a suspected DUI crash claimed the life of a grandmother and left her granddaughter critically injured at the intersection of Euclid Avenue and 15th Street in Upland, CA.
Around 4:00 p.m., the victim, 83-year-old Barbara Taylor from Rancho Cucamonga, was driving with her adult granddaughter as a passenger. They reached the stop sign at the intersection of Euclid Avenue and 15th Street. Believing it was safe, they proceeded forward, but before they could cross, a speeding driver collided with them.
Velto exited his car to assist the victims, but the force of the crash had jammed their car doors, preventing access. Emergency crews arrived and used a hydraulic rescue tool to free the victims from the wreckage.
The suspect, 25-year-old Jose Ramirez, was ultimately arrested. He “showed signs of intoxication at the scene” and was found to have a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit.
