Los Angeles County, California (Commerce, CA) – On February 22, 2025, a crash involving a driver fleeing from authorities resulted in one death and multiple injuries in Commerce, CA.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the pursuit began shortly after 11:00 p.m. in Bell Gardens when the driver of a red sedan failed to yield at an intersection. Officers called off the pursuit a minute later after noticing the driver speeding through red lights. The unidentified suspect allegedly reached speeds over 100 mph before colliding with a vehicle stopped at a red light. The driver then crashed into a bus stop, resulting in one fatality.
Authorities stated that the victim was believed to be homeless and was sleeping on a bench when the crash occurred. The East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station informed Eyewitness News that another victim, who was crossing the street at the time, required a leg amputation early Sunday morning.
The driver of the red sedan has been taken into custody.
