El Dorado County, California (Pollock Pines, CA) – On May 31, 2023, four minors were struck by a and were flown to hospitals while others were transferred by ground ambulance in Pollock Pines, CA.
The collision occurred about 10:42 a.m. at the marked crosswalk on Pony Express Trail near Oak Street, according to the CHP. At the crosswalk, there are no stoplights or stop signs. The owner of the strip mall on the block where the Montessori school is situated verified to KCRA 3 that all of the children were school students. The institution accepts kids as young as six years old.
According to CHP, the 21-year-old operator of a Ford E-150 stayed on the site and is helping. At the moment, alcohol, drugs, or a high rate of speed are not considered to have played a role in the collision. Detectives are looking into whether distracted driving was a factor in the collision. He identified the concerned vehicle as an appliance maintenance van. A boy and a girl were brought to UC Davis Medical Center with serious injuries. A representative declined to comment on their condition. One child was sent to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with serious injuries, while a boy and a girl were transported to Marshall Medical Center with lesser injuries.
On social media, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office advised parents picking up their children near the incident site to park in a close Safeway and talk with a deputy at the scene.
