Many people assume that if they feel fine after a car accident, they are fine. Or, they may experience what they would consider “mild” or “nuisance” symptoms and fail to attribute them to the accident. If you were in a car accident — even a minor one — lookout for these potentially serious symptoms.

Neck Stiffness and Pain

If you have pain or stiffness in your neck after a crash, you could have whiplash. Whiplash is one of the most common car accident injuries. Whiplash on its own is not fatal, but if not treated, can lead to chronic pain and lifelong problems.

Headache, Blurred Vision, or Nausea

It’s common to feel a little banged up after an accident. However, a headache or blurred vision — especially coupled with nausea — after a crash can indicate a more serious problem. Concussions are common after car accidents and are usually just observed without treatment until they heal on their own. However, serious brain injuries, like bruising on the brain or brain bleeds, rapidly progress.

Back Pain

Back pain after an accident can indicate a minor sprain or strain, or that the spinal cord was bruised during the accident. If you have back pain after a crash, you’ll need diagnostic testing and treatment to keep you comfortable until you’re healed. If the injury is more severe, you may need extended physical therapy or even surgery.

Feeling Faint or Weak

You’re naturally going to be tired after the adrenaline wears off. However, if you feel faint or weak, seek emergency care as soon as possible. Internal bleeding may not be noticed right away, but if your organs were injured during the collision, you could need immediate surgery. Don’t take feeling faint or weak lightly — get medical help right away.

When to Contact an Attorney

If someone else’s negligence or carelessness caused or contributed to the crash that injured you, the expenses related to your accident may not be your burden to bear. At Idiart Law, we can help you determine if someone else was at fault for the collision, and we can assist you in bringing forward a claim for compensation. We will zealously seek the full and fair compensation you deserve for your injuries, whether it be through mediation, arbitration, or litigation.
